By becoming a birth parent volunteer, you will have the opportunity to make an incredibly valuable difference for a parent who has undergone the very difficult trauma of losing a child due to child protection concerns.
This role requires you to be sensitive, empathic, and a good listener. Often parents are left with next to no support following the removal of their children, and your support could mean that they are able to cope far better with the consequences of such a trauma.
Your involvement could be to support parents to access the letterbox service, where parents can write once or twice a year to the adoptive parents of their children in order to keep updated. It could involve supporting parents to access appropriate therapy if they wish to, or you could be supporting a parent to attend LAC (Looked After Children) reviews.
