Our fortnightly group had a visitor from Clarity CIC! Clarity are an organisation who enable social purpose organisations to be effective, sustainable and well-run. They offer constructive guidance following a skills and strengths assessment of the entire organisation, and were keen to hear directly from our beneficiaries. Our parent consultation group were more than happy to have a chat with their Director, offering insight into their own experiences of our support. We met at our usual venue and spoke about the strengths of our organisation, more specifically the Parent Project itself. Parents offered encouraging comments, such as their appreciation for our long-term support. Where possible, we do not close a case once a final order has been made, and work hard to maintain relationships with birth parents. There are many ways that the service can continue, and the emotionally supportive nature of the group was touched upon as being an important part of what the project offers.
We also reflected on the work of our very dedicated volunteers, who are instrumental in the provision of ongoing emotional and practical support once children have been placed outside their birth parents care. It was acknowledged that this provision is absolutely integral to ensure that parents remain connected to a support network. For individuals to feel heard and understood is essential in contributing to their healing process, particularly when it comes to the very traumatic experience of losing a child. We are incredibly appreciative to have such attentive, passionate, and caring volunteers, who can come alongside parents during this transition.
So, as always, a successful meeting! Participants were extremely helpful and engaging. We’re very grateful to be reassured of the parents’ increasing sense of self-worth and confidence, which comes from their inclusion in the development and improvement of services, as well as the provision of a safe, non-judgmental space for them to express themselves and to connect with each other.
