We are absolutely delighted to announce that the Plymouth Parent Advocacy Project has been shortlisted for ‘Outstanding Advocacy Service’ in the National Advocacy Awards. This category recognises services that are making a difference in their local area, offering the very best in service delivery. The category also recognises developments and improvements with how advocacy is delivered, celebrating creative and innovative ways services are evolving their support. The judges were apparently impressed by how much the project has managed to achieve without any statutory funding. There are just three other finalists.
In addition, Carrie Laws, from the Family Law Company, has also been shortlisted in the ‘Best Supporter’ category. This award focuses on people who do not directly deliver advocacy but who contribute to and improve standards within the sector. Carrie has supported the project from the start and has helped raise over £6,000 in funding. She has run the London Marathon, participated in the classic quarter 44 mile coastal run and helped organise a quiz night and charity ball.
The awards will take place at the Hilton NEC in Birmingham on October 30th, the evening before the National Advocacy Conference. Kate Cowling, the Project Manager and Carrie will be attending the awards when they will find out how they have got on.
