Feeling grateful for the progress made in the last few weeks with our monthly meet-ups. Our consultation work is proving to be a success. More than anything, we can sense how much the parents value being asked their opinion, and we can safely say they do not hold back when it comes to evaluating easy-read resources!
What better way to ensure resources are effective than to ask the parents themselves! It’s also insightful to know what methods and approaches work for different people. Some parents rely heavily on pictures, whereas others would find too many images patronising– worth considering when adapted information for those with a learning disability! Others find certain font colours more readable than others, and some would rather have information delivered via video or audio methods.
Aside from the more formal structure to our meetings, it’s such a joy to witness the forming of positive friendships, and to hear that the parents remain in contact outside of our gatherings. A crucial aim from the very beginning has been to reduce their feelings of isolation, and it feels as though this is becoming more and more of a reality!!
…and speaking of videos… we’ve got something in the pipeline for the new year. A fantastic opportunity find out about the parent’s experience of working with us. Stay tuned.
