We are so pleased to share with everyone that we have been awarded just under 10k from the Tampon Tax Community fund. The funding was applied for back in October and as you can imagine, we were all over the moon when we found out that the bid was successful as well as, very proud of the individuals that applied for it.
The Devon Community Foundation, who oversees the funding, had asked everyone who was successful in their bid to not share the news with the public until 14th Jan. This meant we had to wait all through Christmas before we could shout about it. There may have been an accidental ‘tampontax’ hashtag before this date.
This funding will go towards the Wiser project that teaches women with learning disabilities about domestic abuse. It will help create more awareness around the subject and allow the women who participate in the course to understand what domestic abuse looks like and gain the knowledge and skills to see the early signs of abusive behaviour so to avoid it in the future.
We are already seeing the positive impact from this project and the start of the first course has been a huge success. The referrals are coming in fast, so we’re super lucky to receive this funding, which will not only help us keep up with the demand but ensure that women who are at risk feel empowered, more resilient and wiser.
